Fresh Heirloom Tomato Caprese Salad

This dish was inspired by the delicious variety of heirloom tomatoes I’ve been finding at my local farmer’s market! It’s a classic summer dish that’s refreshing, flavorful, and simple to make. Serve it at your next summer cookout or with dinner to add a pop of color to your table!

Fresh Heirloom Tomato Caprese Salad

Ingredients

  • 10 small/medium heirloom tomatoes, sliced in halves or thirds (depending on size)
  • 8oz fresh mozzarella, cut into bite-size pieces
  • 1/4 cup of fresh basil, sliced or torn into bite-size pieces
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of pepper
  • Olive oil (to drizzle)
  • Balsamic glaze (to drizzle)

Directions

  1. Arrange the sliced heirloom tomatoes on a serving platter, slightly overlapping.
  2. Add basil leaves, situating the leaves between the tomatoes.
  3. Top the salad with mozzarella pieces.
  4. Sprinkle the salad with salt and pepper.
  5. Drizzle olive oil across the salad once in a zig-zag motion.
  6. Drizzle balsamic glaze over the salad 1-2 times in a zig zag motion (depending on desired level of sweetness).
